The wedding ceremony and celebration of Anne Sandweg and Philippe Royall were fit for a king and queen.

Anne and Philippe met when they were both randomly placed on the same volleyball league team four years ago. After dating for a year and a half, the couple retraced their first date with a hike to the tallest bluff at Castlewood State Park. At the top, Phillippe asked Anne to be his bride.

Finding a theme for the wedding was easy, Anne says. Playing off the groom’s surname, Royall, the couple decided on purple-raspberry as the main color. The ceremony was held at the bride’s family parish, Our Lady of the Pillar. The reception, held at the ballroom at the Saint Louis Club, also complemented the royal theme. Paying homage to Philippe’s French heritage, guests dined on hors d’oeuvres, asparagus vichyssoise, dauphine potatoes with filet of beef, and a spring vegetable medley. The couple enjoyed their first dance to Imagine Dragons’ On Top of the World; and as guests hit the dance floor, they donned masks decorated with peacock feathers to take the royal theme even further. At the end of the reception, guests waved wands that were loaded with a small charge, bathing the newlyweds in a sea of confetti as they departed. Waiting for them in the lobby bar of The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis were friends and family, ready to relax and enjoy the night for several more hours.

Jetting off for a 10-day honeymoon in Costa Rica, Anne and Philippe hiked, snorkeled, swam with dolphins, went whitewater-rafting, and zip-lined through the rainforest.

While the newlyweds look back fondly at their special day, they know they have even more happiness ahead. “One of the things that I said to my dad throughout the process was that while I’m super-excited about the wedding, all the days after that are more important,” Anne says. “That’s what I was excited for. It’s more about what it means than what goes on.”
