These past weeks, we’ve been asking our contributors about their plans for one last summer hurrah. I’ve been thinking about the question, as well; and for the numerous activities I’ve been able to come up with—and check off my list—I find myself wishing for just a few more days of fun in the sun.
For starters, I’ve been getting my membership’s worth at the Missouri Botanical Garden, which is blooming with water lilies, zinnias, coneflowers and Russian sage, among other beauties. The cooler-than-usual temperatures also have made it ideal for the Muyco-Tobins to embark on our next 100-mile leg on the Katy Trail. We recently reached Mile Marker 112, just outside of Hermann, where the air is sweet and the surroundings are as peaceful as can be. We’ve also taken to dining al fresco at our favorite local establishments, as well as visiting neighborhood farmers markets to score the best tomatoes, peaches, berries, leafy greens and breads around.
So, go ahead and bask in summer’s splendor—it’ll be over before you know it. And don’t forget the sunscreen!
