These days, it’s not unusual for a stranger to get my attention, call me by name and identify themselves as LN readers. It doesn’t matter whether I’m at the checkout line at Schnucks (Hi, Karen!), getting a quick mani-pedi (Good to meet you, Lauri!), or more than 300 miles from home (Hello, Nancy and Mike!), it always makes me think about what a small-world small town St. Louis really is.

Just last week, we received a phone call from Polly of Kansas City. It turns out that her great-grandmother was the original owner of #23 Lenox Place, this year’s Ladue News Show House. Polly found out about the Show House on the Internet, and rearranged her travel plans to include a stop in St. Louis for a chance to see the house one more time. Of course, the story doesn’t end there. There are tales of a Spanish count, the World’s Fair and a family crest—and then there was the divorce scandal.

The LN Show House runs through Oct. 20. As for the rest of the story, you’ll have to stay tuned until next week…
