SATURDAY, MAY 12
PARKWAY CENTRAL AT DE SMET, 11 A.M.—It’s win or go home time for area baseball teams. The Colts will try to keep their season alive when they take on the Class 4 District 7 host Spartans. De Smet started out slow but found its groove midway through the season.
PATTONVILLE AT PARKWAY NORTH, NOON—Another District 7 tussle, the winner gets to take on CBC in the district semifinals on Monday.
KIRKWOOD AT WEBSTER GROVES, NOON—The longtime rivals will try to knock each other off to keep their teams together. The winner gets top-seeded Vianney in the second round.
CLAYTON AT WESTMINSTER, TBD—The first round playoff game of the Class 2 District 5 tournament, the Greyhounds and Wildcats will play for the right to take on two-time defending state champion Visitation on Monday.
TRACK & FIELD
CLASS 4 DISTRICT 2 MEET AT MARQUETTE, 10 A.M.—The first of two meets to reach the state championships, this district is loaded with talent. Among those schools participating are Chaminade, CBC, De Smet, Eureka, Kirkwood, Ladue, Lafayette, Marquette, Nerinx Hall, Parkway South, Parkway West, St. Joseph’s Academy, Ursuline and Webster Groves.
CLASS 3 DISTRICT 3 MEET AT MICDS, 10 A.M.—Another loaded meet of the smaller area schools. Participating in this meet will be: Clayton, John Burroughs, John F. Kennedy, Lutheran North, MICDS, Priory, Trinity, University City, Villa Duchesne, Visitation and Westminster.
MONDAY, MAY 14
CLASS 4 DISTRICT 5 SEMIFINALS, 4:15 P.M. AT TO BE DETERMINED—Funny things happen in the playoffs. But something awfully nutty would have to happen for Ladue not to host Chaminade in this district semifinal. The Rams have been one of the top teams all spring. Chaminade has held its own in the meat grinder that is the Metro Catholic Conference.
VILLA DUCHESNE VS. MICDS, 5:45 P.M. AT WESTMINSTER— The No. 2 seed, Villa Duchesne, has a stingy defense that doesn’t give up much. MICDS, the No. 3 seed, has the best offense in the Metro League this season. Something has to give in this clash of league rivals.
TUESDAY, MAY 15
CLASS 4 DISTRICT 5 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, 4:15 P.M. AT RITENOUR—If this game doesn’t pit St. Louis University High against Ladue or Chaminade, it would be a true stunner. The Junior Billikens have won 33 district championships. Ladue is the No. 2 seed and Chaminade is the No. 3 seed.
CLASS 4 DISTRICT 3 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, 7 P.M. AT BALLWIN ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION—Another tournament title that would require something funny to happen for top seed Vianney not to be in this game. They’ll more than likely take on Lindbergh, the No. 2 seed. These two rivals have collided in this game for many years with Vianney keeping Lindbergh at bay. Could this be the year the Flyers take the district title?
WEDNESDAY, MAY 16
CLASS 4 DISTRICT 7 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, 4:15 P.M. AT DE SMET—This should be a clash of rivals CBC, the top seed, and De Smet. The Cadets eked out a 4-3 win in their first regular season matchup at home.
CLASS 2 DISTRICT 5 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, 4:30 P.M. AT WESTMINSTER—Two-time defending state champion Visitation should be here barring an upset. The Vivettes will more than likely have to tussle with rival and No. 2 seed Villa Duchesne, but that’s only if the Saints could put the brakes on the high-flying MICDS offense in the semifinals.
