FRIDAY, MARCH 2

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

CLASS 3 DISTRICT 6 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AT WHITFIELD, 6 P.M.—One of the best district tournaments of any size, this one features three powerhouses in host Whitfield, John Burroughs and Lutheran North. All three could find their way to state through almost any other district. However, only one will advance. The winner of this district takes on the winner of the Cardinal Ritter-Maplewood district in sectionals.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

CLASS 3 DISTRICT 6 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME AT PRINCIPIA, 8 P.M.—This is Principia’s district to lose. The Panthers have spent the winter crushing whoever dared cross their path, and there doesn’t appear to be much in their way here. However, funny things happen in the postseason, especially when all the pressure is on one team.

SATURDAY, MARCH 3

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

CLASS 5 STATE QUARTERFINAL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS, 1:45 P.M.—The first of two quarterfinals at UMSL, the winners of this matchup will advance to Columbia and play in the state semifinals on Thursday. This game will more than likely feature Vianney and defending Class 5 champion McCluer North. Sure to be a crowd pleaser.

CLASS 4 STATE QUARTERFINAL AT FRANCIS HOWELL CENTRAL, 2:45 P.M.—This game will feature the winner of the Soldan/Westminster sectional contest against a team from the middle of the state, probably Mexico.

CLASS 5 STATE QUARTERFINAL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI—St. Louis, 7:45 p.m.—The second quarterfinal of the day will likely pit Webster Groves against De Smet. Winner gets a ticket to the final four.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

CLASS 5 STATE QUARTERFINAL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS, 1 P.M.—The first of two quarterfinals at UMSL. This game should feature Fort Zumwalt West or Kirkwood, depending on who wins their sectional matchup the previous Wednesday.

CLASS 5 STATE QUARTERFINAL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS, 6 P.M.—The game girls’ basketball aficionados have been waiting for: St. Joseph’s Academy vs. Incarnate Word. If all things go as expected, this would be the third meeting between the two programs. Winner goes to state; loser goes home. Get there early, you won’t want to miss this.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

CLASS 3 SECTIONAL AT ST. LOUIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE AT MERAMEC, 7:45 P.M.—The Cardinal Ritter-Maplewood district winner takes on the Whitfield-Lutheran North-John Burroughs district winner.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

CLASS 3 SECTIONAL AT ST. LOUIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE AT MERAMEC, 6 P.M.—This should be Principia’s first round of the playoffs and it should come against a beatable opponent.
