BRENTWOODCOACH: KEITH HERRING, FIRST YEAR

2010: The Eagles went 6-4 and swept their district but lost to Northwest Academy in the first round of the Class 2 playoffs. Returning starters: 5 offense, 5 defense.

About the Eagles: Groth has made the unlikely transition from the offensive line to starting QB heading into the season opener. “He is a fast learner and he has put in his time,” Herring says.

CBC COACH: SCOTT PINGEL, FOURTH YEAR

2010: The Cadets went 10-2, won the MCC championship and reached the Class 6 quarterfinals, where they lost to runner-up Hazelwood Central. Returning starters: 7 offense, 4 defense.

About the Cadets: CBC will be strong on offense. Demos returns after throwing for 2,038 yards and scored 21 TDs, while Parker rushed for 600 yards and had eight scores.

CHAMINADE COACH: DOUG TAYLOR, 15TH YEAR

2010: The Red Devils went 8-3 overall, 3-1 in the MCC, and advanced to the second round of the Class 5 playoffs. Returning starters: 3 offense, 5 defense.

2010: The Greyhounds finished 8-4 overall, 3-2 in Suburban East play and lost to Ladue in the Class 4 sectional round. Returning starters: 7 offense, 9 defense.

2010: The Spartans struggled early but finished 8-5 and advanced to the Class 6 semifinals for the second straight season. Returning starters: 6 offense, 5 defense.

About the Spartans: Neal, who has committed to Oklahoma, will line up all over the field, including at RB and QB. He accounted for 1,914 total yards and 31 touchdowns as a junior.

JOHN BURROUGHS COACH: GUS FREROTTE, FIRST YEAR

2010: The Bombers went 14-1, missing a perfect season via a 21-20 loss to Richmond in the Class 3 championship. Returning starters: 2 offense, 5 defense.

About the Bombers: Former NFL quarterback Frerotte replaces Todd Small, who retired after 23 years with JBS. Davey Holmes (sr., 5-11, 165) and Peter Schnuck (jr., 6-0, 160) are competing for the QB position.

KENNEDY COACH: SCOTT LONG, FOURTH YEAR

2010: The Celt finished 2-8 overall, 1-5 in conference play. Returning starters: 7 offense, 7 defense.

Players to watch: QB Peter Lawrence (sr., 5-11, 200), RB/LB Joe Lawrence (jr., 5-10, 185), RB/DB Jake Gaal (jr., 5-8, 165), OL/DL Marc St. Amour (jr., 5-7, 235), OL/DL Andrew Mannott (jr., 5-10, 210).

About the Celts: There are just three seniors on the roster. Once back from injury, Sam Stewart (soph., 6-2, 225) looks to shore up the defensive line. Jacob Powers (soph., 6-2, 195) will be another youngster at linebacker.

KIRKWOOD COACH: MATT IRVIN, SECOND YEAR

2010: The Pioneers finished 9-4 overall, 4-2 in conference play, and lost toWebster Groves in the Class 5 semifinals. Returning starters: 5 offense, 2 defense.

About the Pioneers: Buckner is one of the area’s more exciting players. Kirkwood also returns its top three rushers in Buckner, Alton (571 yards), and Banks (260).

LADUE COACH: MIKE TARPEY, FIFTH SEASON

2010: The Rams went 11-2 overall, 5-0 in Suburban East play and lost to Warrenton in the Class 4 quarterfinals. Returning starters: 6 offense, 5 defense.

Players to watch: WR/DB Jehu Chesson (sr., 6-3, 185), QB Brandon Carr (sr., 6-2, 200), LB/FB Daylen Dean (sr., 6-2, 180), LB/FB Mike Horton-Loftin (sr., 5-9, 230), S/RB Deavin Edwards (sr., 5-9, 185), OL HabtamuWorkineh (sr., 5-9, 245), OL Brent Morrow (soph., 6-2, 275), OL/DL Casey Bierman (sr., 5-8, 190), OL/LB Danile Koslovky (sr., 6-2, 185).

About the Rams: Under Tarpey, Ladue has won three straight district titles. Chesson is one of the more coveted wide receiver prospects in Missouri. He’s being courted by Mizzou, Illinois and others.

LAFAYETTE COACH: BOYD MANNE, EIGHTH YEAR

2010: The Lancers went 5-5 overall, 5-3 in conference play. Returning starters: 7 offense, 6 defense.

Players to watch: QB Dominic Bisesi (sr., 5-11, 179), WR/DB William DuPont (sr., 6-0, 178), TE/DL Brock Behrndt (sr., 6-5, 235), WR/DB Tyler Manne (sr., 5-11, 165), RB/DB Markuice Savage (sr., 5-10, 177), TE/DE John Voit (jr., 6-3, 215), RB/DB Deonte Robinson (jr., 5-6, 160), OL/DL Gabe Kuhn (jr., 6-5, 260), OL/DL Michael Emro (sr., 6-8, 300), OL/LB Michael Mueller (sr., 6-2, 205), OL/DL Reed Reynolds (sr., 6-1, 260).

About the Lancers: Lafayette returns nearly all of its significant skill position players. Bisesi threw for 1,762 yards. He connected most often with DuPont, whose 567 yards was an all-team high.

MARQUETTE COACH: RYAN THORNHILL, FIFTH SEASON

2010: The Mustangs went 8-3 overall, 7-1 in Suburban West play, and lost to Hazelwood Central in Class 6 sectionals. Returning starters: 1 offense, 3 defense.

Players to watch: OL/DL Nick Thomas-Smith (sr., 5-9, 250), DL/OL Ryan Kincade (sr., 6-3, 285), LB/RB Justin Bedell (sr., 5-9, 180), DB/RB Anthony Dudley (sr., 6-0, 180), RB Jeshon Jackson (sr., 6-0, 195), QB/S Daniel Slattery (jr., 5-11, 185).

About the Mustangs: With just a handful of returners, Thornhill expects growing pains. He’s simplified the offense and defense to make it as easy to digest as possible for his inexperienced players.

MICDS COACH: JOSH SMITH, FOURTH YEAR

2010: The Rams finished 5-5 overall, 4-1 in conference play, and did not reach the playoffs. Returning starters: 7 offense, 4 defense.

Players to watch: RB/LB Michael Scherer (sr., 6-3, 230), QB Thomas Militello (sr., 6-4, 185), OL/DL Chris Hiemenz (sr., 5-10, 195), OL/DL Peter Schlafly (sr., 6-2, 200), RB/DB AJ Washington (sr., 5-10, 200), WR/DB Jack Howell (sr., 6-3, 190), WR/DB Foster Bundy (sr. 5-9, 165).

About the Rams: MICDS should have a bounce-back season. Scherer has verbally committed to Mizzou. There are 26 seniors on the roster.

PARKWAY CENTRAL COACH: MARK GOLDENBERG, NINTH YEAR

2010: The Colts went 6-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play. They lost their last two district games to Webster Groves and Chaminade by a combined four points. Returning starters: 5 offense, 6 defense.

Players to watch: WR/DB Brandon Sheperd (sr., 6-3, 190), RB/LB Logan Boyer (sr., 5-9, 180) WR/DB DevonWesley (sr., 5-9, 150), WR/DB EriqMoore (sr., 5-9, 160), OL/DL Spencer Horwitz (sr., 6-2, 225), OL/DLAlex Scarato (sr., 5-11, 270), Akbar Usmanov (sr., 5-11, 230).

About the Colts: Goldenberg says he has never had a player recruited as heavily as Sheperd, an excellent, complete player. Cole Gorman (sr., 5-10, 175) is the quarterback after attempting one pass last season.

PARKWAY NORTH COACH: BOB BUNTON, 12TH YEAR

2010: The Vikings went 7-3 overall, finished second in the Suburban South, but did not reach the playoffs. Returning starters: 1 offense, 6 defense.

Players to watch: RB/LB Donavin Newsom (6-2, 220), DE Phil Posley (sr., 6-0, 220), DE Johnathan Little (jr., 5-11, 170), DT Rafe Janssen (jr., 5-11, 245), WR Michael Bozarth (sr., 5-11, 170), RB Jovonte Suber (6-0, 160), QB Andy Huss (jr., 5-11, 200), DB Nathan Tilson (jr. 5-11, 170).

About the Vikings: Newsom, who has committed to Mizzou, is one of the area’s top two-way players. North must replace the production of graduated RB James Hawkins, who had 1,363 yards.

PARKWAY SOUTH COACH: TRAVIS BLEVINS, SEVENTH SEASON

2010: The Patriots went 4-6 overall and 3-5 in the Suburban West. Returning starters: 6 offense, 6 defense.

Players to watch: QB Eric Laurent (sr., 6-4, 200), OL/DL DonnellWalker (sr., 5-11, 290), OL/DL Corey Marquard (sr., 6-1, 220), RB/DB Cameron Bounds (sr., 6-0, 180), WR/DB Justin Dwyer (sr., 6-0, 155), WR/DB Tyler Omlid (sr., 6-1, 155), WR/DB Jack Moellenhoff (sr., 5-10, 175), WR/DB Wes Heartling (sr., 5-10, 175).

About the Patriots: Blevins hopes this is the year the team turns the corner and learns how to close out tight games. Laurent is attracting some Division I attention.

PARKWAYWEST COACH: JEFF DUNCAN, THIRD YEAR

2010: The Longhorns finished 3-8 overall and 1-6 in conference play. Returning starters: 8 offense, 5 defense.

Players to watch: RB/DB Ed Carter (sr., 6-1, 170), OL/DL Austin Doss, (sr., 6-2, 230), OL/DL Stephen Groczyca (sr., 6-4, 285), QB JC DeMuri (jr., 6-3, 195), WR/DB Cole Lema (sr., 6-0, 190), RB/DE Rane Eskelsen (sr., 6-2, 220), DB/WR Sam Newmaster (sr., 5-10, 165).

About the Longhorns: DeMuri had 61 pass attempts last season, with no touchdowns and five interceptions. He will have a new target at tight end in Zach Lathrup (sr., 6-6, 200), a basketball player who is giving it a try on the gridiron.

PRINCIPIA COACH: BRAD WARRICK, SIXTH YEAR

2010: The Panthers finished 2-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play. Returning starters: 5 offense, 5 defense.

Players to watch: FB/DL Curtis Atkins (sr., 5-9, 240), RB/DB Isaiah Laster (sr. 5-11, 175), OL/LB Austin Moyle (jr., 6-2, 205), OL/LB Nate Gaubets (sr., 6-1, 205), QB Connor Savoye (sr., 6-0, 175), Jenlock Farson (sr., 5-7, 260).

About the Panthers: Last season, the Panthers played three teams that reached the state championships: Valley Catholic, Maplewood-Richmond Heights and Burroughs. All are on the schedule this year, as well.

PRIORY COACH: MARTY COMBS, EIGHTH YEAR

2010: The Rebels went 8-3 overall, 3-2 in league play, and lost 18-10 to Cardinal Ritter in the first round of the Class 3 playoffs. Returning starters: 2 offense, 4 defense.

Players to watch: WR/DB Seve Esparrago (sr., 5-10, 185), WR/DB Jack Taiclet (sr., 5-10, 150), OL/DL John Houser (jr. 6-3, 240), QB David Nogalski (jr., 6-3, 195), RB Raybuck Thomas (jr. 6-1, 175).

About the Rebels: Priory won eight of its first nine games last season. Esparrago had a team-high 23 receptions for 267 yards and three touchdowns. Priory gets a boost with the return of WR/TE/DE Andrew Wright (sr., 6-3, 190).

ST. LOUIS U. HIGH COACH: GARY KORNFELD, 24TH YEAR

2010: The Jr. Billikens finished 4-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Returning starters: 8 offense, 5 defense.

Players to watch: QB Trevor McDonagh (sr., 6-3, 194), WR Stefan Sansone (sr., 6-1, 180), WR Mitch Klug (sr., 6-2, 180), RB Terek Hawkins (sr., 5-7, 141), RB/DB Cameron Stubbs (sr., 5-10, 180), LB Sean Rammaha (sr., 5-9, 201), OL Sam Knesel (sr., 6-1, 264), OL Bryan Mathews (sr., 6-2, 264), OL Aaron Kerwood (sr., 6-1, 235), LB Jamil Irvin- Muhammad (sr., 5-11, 191).

About the Jr. Billikens: Kornfeld is 173-73 in his first 23 years at SLUH. The Jr. Billikens are 9-12 over the past two seasons, but return most of an offensive unit that averaged 31.7 points per game.

UNIVERSITY CITY COACH: CARL REED, FIRST YEAR

2010: The Lions finished 1-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play. Returning starters: 5 offense, 5 defense.

Players to watch: QB/DB DeandreWilliams (sr., 5-10, 165), RB/DB DavanteWashington (sr., 5-10, 175), OL/DL Ronald Perkins (sr., 6-0, 295), WR/DB Mario Wallace (sr., 5-10, 165), OL/DL Kobi Gilky (jr., 6-4, 290), WR/DB Tony Newman (sr., 5-11, 155).

About the Lions: Williams will be the triggerman in an offense that will have to score more than last year’s league-low 19.2 points per game. Reed, steps in for Rob Battle, who coached the Lions for one season.

VIANNEY COACH: MIKE DIFFLEY, FIRST YEAR

2010: The Golden Griffins went 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the MCC. Returning starters: 7 offense, 6 defense.

Players to watch: OL/LB Greg Eilerman (sr., 6-1, 222), QB/DB Andrew Auer (sr., 5-9, 173), OL/DL Joe Zoellner (sr., 6-2, 232), OL/DL Tommy Dwyer (sr., 5-10, 208), WR/DB Mark Smith (sr., 5-9, 140), OL/DL Ben Dudley (sr., 6-1, 244), OL/DL Denny Moore (sr., 5- 11, 252), RB/LB Matt Guignon (sr., 6-0, 210), RB/DB Rob Bieg (sr., 5-8, 160), TE/DE Joe Stevens (sr., 6-4, 240).

About the Golden Griffins: Vianney is 6-14 over the last two seasons. Diffley comes to Vianney after seven seasons as an assistant at Chaminade, with five as the offensive coordinator.

WEBSTER GROVES COACH: CLIFF ICE, 13TH YEAR

2010: In defense of their 2009 Class 5 championship, the Statesmen went 13-1, the loss 44-21 to Lee’s Summit West in the title game. Returning starters: 6 offense, 5 defense.

Players to watch: QB Rayshawn Simmons (sr., 6-3, 170), WR/DB Demetrius Robinson (sr., 6-3, 180), WR/DB Mike Cole (sr., 5-10, 175), WR/DB AJ Farrar (sr., 5-9, 165), TE/DE Ben Arnold (sr., 6-5, 205), OL/DL Allan Benson (sr., 6-0, 235), LB D.J. Johnson (sr., 6-1, 185), RB/LB Dante Flowers (sr., 5-6, 170), OL/DL Alex Roberts (jr. 6-4, 250).

About the Statesmen: Webster once again is the team to beat in the Suburban South Conference. With an average of 40 points a game in 2010, it could be even more potent in 2011.

WESTMINSTER COACH: CORY SNDYER, FIRST SEASON.

Last Season: The Wildcats went 2-8, scoring seven or fewer points in every loss.

Players to watch: WR/LB Chris Cacciarelli (jr., 6-3, 185), RB/LB Keith Degler (jr., 5-10, 180), LB David Thomas (sr., 5-11, 175), LB/DB Davis Vermillion (sr., 5-10, 160), DL Cameron Clay (sr., 5-7, 240).

About the Wildcats: Westminster has moved campuses and will start the season against Wheaton in its 2,000-seat complex. Snyder served as an assistant for 10 years, and says his main goal is to create stability.
