> Soul food fans will have a new place to frequent this fall. ROBBIE MONTGOMERY, of Sweetie Pie’s fame, will be opening another eatery, Sweetie Pie’s Upper Crust, “sometime in September or October” at 3643 Delmar. Right now the building is being cleaned up and prepped for construction. In addition to current Sweetie Pie’s favorites, the Upper Crust menu will also offer salads, steaks and sandwiches. Robbie says the new place will feature a banquet room, bakery facility, bar and  separate carry-out line. Look for culinary classes to be held there as well.

> The results are in from the Schlafly Brew & Q World Pork Steak Championship, held May 29 at the Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood. Team ASAP took the top prize in the Appetizer category, while The Guys team is now the undisputed master of the pork steak. There was a whiff of scandal, though. Turns out The Guys’ winning entry was grilled with (gasp) propane.

> KATERI MEYER has moved her shop, Traveling Tea (traveling-tea.com), from Sutton in Maplewood to 3006 South Jefferson, just north of Arsenal. No regular hours will be set, so you’ll have to keep tabs on the Web site to find out when the doors will be open. Future plans include more Web shopping options, and Kateri says she’s making the push to put her teas in more retail outlets as well as keeping a pretty active market schedule. Look for her at the Tower Grove Farmers Markets, Tower Grove Park on Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the new Tower Grove Downtown Farmers Market in the Old Post Office Plaza on Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. (tgmarket.org). In other tea news,  celebrityteas.com is now open for business online. The locally owned webstore specializes in organic gourmet blends.

> Community Living’s Big Kahuna Celebrity Bartender Challenge will be held at two locations this year in an effort to host more teams and raise more money for the organization. This year you can check out the competition at Side Pockets, 1439 Bass Pro Drive in St. Charles, or Binford’s, 3915 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in St. Peters, on June 24 from 6 to 9 p.m. The event, now in its eighth year, features teams of individuals and even some local celebs battling it out for cocktail-making supremacy.  All proceeds benefit Community Living’s programs, which support persons with disabilities (cliservices.org)

> The Fiala Food Experience, part of JIM FIALA’s restaurant group that includes Acero and The Crossing, among others, has been tapped to cater the food and beverages at the U.S. Women’s Chess Championship and the U.S. Junior Closed Chess Championship. The events will be held at the St. Louis Chess Club and Scholastic Center in the CWE July 9 to 19.

> Adjust your calendars accordingly. Balaban’s Wine Cellar & Tapas Bar is changing up its hours. They’re now open Mondays for lunch and dinner, and closed on Sundays. Don’t fret, though: the dates and times of upcoming wine and food events won’t change.
