> STEVEN CARAVELLI, executive chef at Araka in Clayton, has moved on. According to Caravelli, the split was a friendly one, and he’s currently searching for his next kitchen gig. Sous chef MICHAEL BURNAU has stepped up to helm the Araka kitchen.
> The St. Louis food scene continues to get national attention. Local favorite Imo’s Pizza is mentioned in the June issue of Woman’s Day as the best St. Louis-style pizza. In the July issue of Food & Wine magazine, chef KEVIN WILLMANN of Farmhaus is featured on the cover, along with the other Best New Chefs winners. The issue also announces the new location of Taste Bar in the CWE and spotlights some of mixologist TED KILGORE’s creations. Chef GERARD CRAFT of Niche also gets a mention in the What Chefs Know Best section.
> Season’s American Cuisine in Chesterfield has unveiled a new sumer menu. Chef KEVIN SMITH says he’s been getting more produce from local purveyors and is using this local bounty in new dishes like homegrown tomato and pesto flatbread, tomato and mozzarella salad and a pork chop with peach chutney.
> Balaban’s Wine Cellar &Tapas Bar has started Balabargain Mondays. Every Monday, the restaurant is offering a menu of three courses for $25, wines at retail prices and no corkage fees.
> The sixth location of Wasabi Sushi Bar will officially open today in Town & Country at 1066 Town & Country Crossing Drive. The new space features an outdoor patio, as well as a private dining area for larger groups.
> Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier will be rolling out its popular chocolate covered raspberries next month. The company flies in berries grown in the Pacific Northwest specifically for these seasonal treats, and turns the finished candy around to customers the same day. Pre-order now, because these confections go fast.
> Morton’s The Steakhouse in Clayton will be hosting a Riedel wine tasting next month. The July 25 event will highlight the importance of enjoying wine in the proper glass. A variety of wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle will be paired with appetizers from Morton’s kitchen, and guests will receive a Riedel Vinum wine glass set. There will also be a silent auction, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to benefit Birdies for the Brave, a military outreach initiative supported by the PGA Tour.
