> Word is that VITO RACANELLI JR. of Onesto Pizza & Trattoria and V. Catering & Events, will be bowing a new Italian eatery at 8000 Carondelet Ave. in Clayton, the location of the shuttered Carondelet Grill. According to MICHELE RACANELLI (co-owner and Vito’s wife), the menu will showcase rustic fare and wines from Southern Italy. The new space, which will have 60 seats inside and an additional 20 on the patio, is bringing in a wood-fired pizza oven from the old country. A name has not been chosen yet, but fans can go to the Onesto Facebook page to vote for their favorite. Look for an opening around Valentine’s Day 2011.
> Upscale Tex-Mex eatery Rosalita’s Cantina is slated to open sometime in mid-November at 1229 Washington Ave. downtown. McGowan Brothers Development will run the establishment, and is also in the midst of developing another Jive & Wail dueling piano bar at 1223 Washington. It will open shortly after Rosalita’s debuts, according to SEAMUS MCGOWAN. And sometime next spring, look for the brothers McGowan to open a coffeehouse/wine bar project across the street in the Fashion Square Lofts building. That’s going to be a hot corner!
> Moulin Events & Meetings recently unveiled a new addition: The Malt House Cellar, located in the basement of 2017 Choteau Ave., home to Moulin, Vin de Set and Grand Petite Market. The newly renovated space offers two unique private event spaces created from the remains of what used to be the entry to the tunnels for the Schnaider Brewery, back in the day. The rooms combined can host up to 255 guests, and the spot has a casual dining menu of dishes made fresh onsite. Much of the decor consists of items unearthed during the renovation, including recycled roof timbers and some huge auger bits that now adorn the bar areas.
> Asian-fusion restaurant Ginger Bistro has opened at 6665 Delmar Blvd. in the U. City Loop, in the space formerly occupied by Blockbuster Video.
> The Gumbo Shop, 9501 Manchester Road in Rock Hill, has expanded into the adjacent storefront and now boasts 20 extra seats. No menu changes, according to management, just some extra room to enjoy that NOLA goodness!
> Congratulations to Chef Jack MacMurrayof Sage Urban American Grill, who walked away with the Master Chef title at Taste of St. Louis.
> At his recent appearance at the Fox Theatre, celebrity chef ANTHONY BOURDAIN revealed that while there are no plans to feature St. Louis specifically in a future episode (boo!), the show will spotlight the Ozark region of Missouri and Arkansas next season (yay!). Hopefully he will head our way for a bite someday.
> Global Brew Tap House & Lounge is set to debut in November at 112 S. Buchanan St. in Edwardsville, Ill., (above Wasabi Sushi Bar), featuring some 50 brews on tap and more than 200 bottled varieties.
> Update: Last week we told you that just the auction portion of the Operation Charcuterie! event Sept. 28 raised $15,000 for Operation Food Search. Well, the final tally is in, and all-in-all, the take for charity was $30,000. Well done!
