> Today is Chocolate Chip Cookie Day at Mike Shannon’s Steaks & Seafood. Various players and staff from the Cardinals will be on hand at the restaurant from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., signing autographs and selling cookies, donated by Schnucks, to raise money for Operation Food Search.    

> CWE favorite Pickles Deli has opened a second location at 701 Olive St. downtown. The new restaurant has same lunch menu as the original, and will be serving breakfast as well. It’ll also be home base for the company’s burgeoning catering business.

> The newly renovated Underground Lounge at Miso on Meramec was officially unveiled  Wednesday, June 1. Updates include everything from new flooring to furniture. The makeover is part of the lead-up to the Miso X celebration to be held Aug. 5, commemorating the restaurant’s 10th anniversary.

> Owners FRAN and TONY CARADONNA have sold their O’Fallon Brewery to former A-B marketing executive JIM GORCZYCA. The new owner has some new distribution deals with Grey Eagle Distributors and Krey Distributing Company, as well. Gorczya has announced the company will continue brewing its five current brands, as well as producing new seasonal brews.

> This Father’s Day, The Ritz-Carlton is rolling out a truly unique brunch for the dads out there. Aptly named ‘A Pig Pickin’, Crawfish Boilin’, Beer Samplin’ Sunday,’ the menu includes a variety of pork dishes made from a whole-roasted pig, Cajun-style boiled crawfish, and a sampling of Schlafly beers, among other delectables. The June 19 bounty will be served from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. For reservations, call 863-6300 ext. 433.

> Whole Foods Market’s Grass-Fed Beef Burger Cookoff will be held July 14 at the Brentwood store, 1601 S. Brentwood Blvd. A roster of top area chefs will compete for a $500 prize to be awarded to the charity of the winner’s choice. Participants include NICK MILLER from Harvest; KRISTOPHER JANIK from Robust Wine Bar & Cafe; CARY MCDOWELL of Winslow’s Home & Farm; CLARA MOORE of Local Harvest Cafe; and GRACE DINSMOOR of Modesto Tapas Bar & Restaurant.

> In addition to craft breweries, St. Louis and the surrounding area is slowly becoming known for its micro-distillers. Case in point: Crown Valley Brewing & Distilling Company in Ste. Genevieve, which just debuted the first estate-grown vodka in Missouri, made from grapes grown in the company’s vineyards. Currently you have to go to the brewery to pick up a bottle.
