> Get waited on by a local bigwig and support kids in need at the 20th Annual Saint Louis Crisis Nursery’s Celebrity Waitresses & Waiters Night at Plaza Frontenac August 19 from 5 to 11 p.m. The event will be held at Cardwell’s at the Plaza and Canyon Cafe, with Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar supplying wine, a signature martini and deserts in the Plaza Frontenac center court. Local celebs on hand will include KMOV-TV’s Larry Conners and St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley, among many others. Last year’s event hosted 800 guests and raised $75,000, and they’re all set to surpass that amount this year. Call Cardwell’s at 314-997-8885 or Canyon Cafe at 314-872-3443 for reservations.

> Local gooey butter cake purveyor Gooey Louie is expanding its original location at 6483 Chippewa. The new addition, dubbed Louie Land, will take over the storefront next to the shop. The new space will have some seating and will feature Lou-specific treats like Fitz’s root beer, Billy Goat potato chips and Ted Drewe’s custard, as well as other area favorites. Co-owner (along with husband KIRK) DEBBIE STIEFERMAN says it’ll be great for visitors who want a one-stop St. Louis experience, and should be up and running by late September. She also told us that a crew from Food Network will be doing some filming in the store over the next month or so for a new show called “Food Feuds,” which should air in October.

> Sarah’s Cake Shop & Catering Company in Chesterfield has jumped on the mobile food trend and launched the Sarah’s Cake Stop truck, which hit the road last month. Owner JILL UMBARGER said so far the rolling cupcake store has made stops at local farmers markets and area attractions like the Muny and the Missouri Botanical Garden. Four different cupcake flavors are available truck-side, and they change daily.

> Look for 3500 Winehaus to open at 3500 Watson Road sometime in early September, if all goes well, says manager MAGGIE HOLLORAN. The establishment will be part wine bar and part retail wine store and will also feature some small-plate appetizers and desserts. You may remember the address as the former home of Wag & Wash.

> The Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier location in the St. Louis Galleria closed its doors July 31 to focus on the CWE and Plaza Frontenac operations, as well as its catalog and Internet business.

> St. Louis is becoming the place to rub shoulders with celebrity chefs. Top Chef Master RICK BAYLESS stopped by L’ Ecole Culinaire August 3 for a cooking demo and to promote his latest cooking tome, Fiesta at Rick’s. And Travel Channel host ANTHONY BOURDAIN will be appearing at The Fox Theater October 1 to promote his recent bestseller, Medium Raw.
