> Popular CWE spot Pickles Deli will soon have another location. Co-owner TIM METZ tells us he and fellow owner SEAN OLSON will soon be opening a second Pickles downtown at 701 Olive St., the former home of Teutenberg’s, which closed last fall. Metz says the new space is about three times bigger than the current restaurant, and should have about 80 seats or so when all is said and done. The new Pickles will have basically the same lunch menu as the original, but also will feature a breakfast menu, and will serve as the base for the restaurants catering operations. Look for an opening in the next couple of months.

> We told you back in September that Indian vegetarian restaurant Gokul would be bowing a second location in the U. City Loop “sometime in October.” Well, it took a little longer than expected, but the new place is now open at 6101 Delmar Blvd., formerly the location of Miss Saigon.

> West County Center is adding another eatery to its Restaurant Village. The shopping center will be the new home of J. Gilbert’s Wood Fired Steaks and Seafood. This will be the first J. Gilbert’s in Missouri, joining locations in four other states. The parent company is Houlihan’s, which also owns Bristol Seafood Grill. We’re told the restaurant will open sometime this summer.

> The local food truck phenomenon keeps rolling on. The latest addition to the fleet is the truck representing gourmet bakery The Sweet Divine, which made its debut in Soulard for Mardi Gras March 5. Owner JENNA SIEBERT says she had been looking for a retail front for the bakery, which specializes in creative wedding cakes, as well as other custom creations, and the truck seemed the perfect way to get her wares before the public. She says her mobile storefront will be offering a variety of cupcakes, muffins, scones, cake pops and the like, as well as chocolate milk and coffee. There may even be some mini-cakes onboard at some point. Ideally, the truck will be on the road Monday though Thursday, and maybe some Saturdays, according to Siebert. > This year’s Idiotarod, an homage of sorts to the Alaskan Iditarod dog sled race where teams of costumed folks race around downtown with shopping carts to raise money for Operation Food Search, was held Feb. 26 and was a huge success. The event attracted 41 teams and collected almost $16,000 for OFS, more than twice last year’s take!

> Congrats to Canyon Cafe! The restaurant won Golden Ladle Awards in both the People’s Choice Awards and Judge’s Awards categories this year at Manor Grove’s annual Soup’s On fundraiser, held Feb. 21, at the Kirkwood Community Center. The cafe separated itself from a field of 25 participating restaurants with its Poblano Chicken Chowder.
