HELEN FLETCHER, currently the pastry chef at Tony's downtown and formerly of the beloved Truffles, as well as and a longtime fixture on the local culinary scene, has released a new cookbook, European Tarts: Divinely Doable Desserts With Little Or No Baking, and an accompanying blog, europeantarts.com. JOVIA TAPAS has opened at 4501 Manchester Road in The Grove. The space has housed restaurants before, namely Crostini and Mia Rosa. The eatery features flavors of the Mediterranean, with lunch and dinner menus featuring delicacies like gyros, pizzas kabobs and a variety of small plates.
The folks at ENTRE will be hosting a month-long 'pop-up' eatery called LE COQ, located at the Entre space at 360 North Boyle Ave. in the CWE. The menu will feature a variety of dishes, many with a focus on chicken (hence, the name). The restaurant will be open Thursday through Saturdays in January only. BAETJE FARMS has taken home four prizes at the recent 2012 World Cheese Awards held in Birmingham, England: a Super Gold for its Bloomsdale cheese, which was deemed one of the top 16 cheeses of the world at the awards last year; silver medals for two of its Coeur de la Creme offerings and a bronze for its marinated Feta.

The fifth annual CENTENNIAL BEER FESTIVAL has been scheduled for Feb. 22 to 23 at Moulin Events and the Malt House Cellar, 2017 Choteau Ave. The brewery partner for the event will be Six Row Brewing Company. Once again this year, PI PIZZERIA in the Loop is offering a limited edition ‘El Monstero’ pizza, sold only on the days of the popular annual El Monstero concerts at the Pageant: Dec. 21, 23, 27, 28 and 29. The pies are topped with bacon, prosciutto, pepperoni and sausage; and 20 percent of the sales of these meat-centric creations will benefit local charities.
