We just reported last week about the closing of Araka in Clayton, and now there's already news to relate about the next resident of the space at 131 Carondelet Plaza: It’s 801 Chophouse, and it'll be the fifth location for the Des Moines-based restaurant chain, which specializes in USDA prime steaks, chops and seafood items. We told you recently there were plans afoot to open a second location of Edgewild at the old Busch's Grove location on Clayton Road in Ladue. Now it's being reported that that the deal may have fallen through. We're still waiting for more details about what happened. We'll keep you updated.
The new Central West End location of The Block Restaurant & Butcher Shop is now open for business at 33 N. Sarah Ave., the building which used to house Terrene. Like the original Webster Groves location, the new eatery offers locally sourced produce, grass-fed beef and on-site butchering. Plenty of local beer, wine and a seasonal cocktail list also are available.

The Cancer Sucks Pub Crawl to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is scheduled to take place on April 6, from 1 to 6 p.m. all along Washington Avenue. Participating bars include Flannery's, Side Bar, Rosalita's, Lucas Park Grille and Blondie's. Tickets are available for a $20 donation through cancersuckspubcrawl.com. In the past three years, the popular event has raised more than $37,900 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which is dedicated to supporting those affected by blood cancers. Throughout Lent, a group of local restaurants is participating in Hunger For More, an initiative to raise awareness and engage the community around the issues of hunger and poverty in South City. Each restaurant is donating 10 percent of its sales one day per week through March 30 to the nonprofit Isaiah 58 Ministries. The list of eateries includes Mangia Italiano (Mondays), City Diner-South Grand (Tuesdays), King & I Thai Restaurant (Wednesdays), Cafe Natasha’s (Thursdays), MoKaBe’s Coffee House (Fridays) and Cini (Saturdays).
