◆ This month, Saint Louis Bread Co. is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Pink Ribbon Bagel, the sale of which supports local breast cancer charities. More than 7 million of the bagels have been sold since 2001, raising more than $1 million. This year, each Bread Co. cafe is donating $1 from each baker’s dozen of bagels sold to the Komen Foundation. And until the end of the month, folks can go to the Panera Bread Facebook page and click the ‘Like’ button for the Panera Bread Virtual Pink Ribbon Bagel, and 10 cents (up to a total of $25,000) will be donated to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation.
◆ Along with its regular menu items, from Oct. 10 through Oct. 15, Modesto Tapas Bar & Restaurant will be offering a special menu in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month. A percentage of the proceeds will go to benefit the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan St. Louis Foundation.
◆ More seasonal menu changes to report around town: Brio Tuscan Grille has a new fall bill of fare that features a lightly-breaded grilled chicken spiedini with lemon rosemary skewers served over rice orzo primavera. And the locavore’s favorite, Local Harvest Cafe & Catering, has introduced a bevy of new items, including vegan samosas, pastry crust stuffed with local veggies and curried potatoes with arugula chutney, and stuffed Missouri Kobe beef meatballs. Hooray for fall!

◆ The third annual Dueling Desserts competition is being held Oct. 8 and 9. The event, part of Arts In The Park at Lindendale Park in Highland, Ill., brings together the area’s best pastry chefs to create artistic desserts made entirely of edible ingredients. From noon until 2 p.m. each day, half of the participating chefs will hold demos, then guests will vote for their favorites by dropping change in jars in front of the displayed desserts. Proceeds will go to support a local food pantry operated by Highland Area Christian Service Ministry. There will be a daily winner announced each day, and an overall victor crowned on Sunday.
