◆The latest Saint Louis Bread Co. bakery/cafe officially opened on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 10336 Clayton Road, adjacent to Plaza Frontenac. The new location features Bread Co.’s fresh artisan breads and quality ingredients, as well as the company’s take-out concept, Saint Louis Bread Co. Catering.

◆ DAVID BAILEY’s latest restaurant, the burger-based Bailey’s Range, made its soft debut a few weeks ago at 920 Olive St. downtown, but ‘officially’ opened for business Oct. 26. The eatery is the fourth in Bailey’s stable of restaurants. Chef MIKE WARHOVER, formerly of Terrene, is at the helm in the kitchen.

◆ Popular downtown Mexican eatery El Borracho Taqueria closed its doors last week. Ownership cited the usual economic reasons for the closure. The ownership group, which also owns Mike Shannon’s, Pepper Lounge and Mandarin, is working on a grill concept (no name yet), expected to open next year in the Town & Country area.

◆More new menus are being unveiled across town: Head to Square One Brewery and Distillery for the new Macaroni Mondays. From 5 to 9 p.m. every Monday, patrons can build their own pasta creation. Stop into Cielo in the Four Seasons for the new Working Lunch Special, $10 for a soup or salad and one entree. The restaurant also has released its new winter dinner selections, featuring a four-course tasting menu for $35. And Webster favorite Big Sky Cafe is now open for lunch Tuesday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

◆ If you’re feeling fancy this holiday season, consider heading to Holiday Tea at O’Fallon’s Heald Home. The Dec. 3 event will be held at the historic home from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., and feature several varieties of tea and dessert. The two-story brick home, built in 1886 by Darius Heald, is located in Fort Zumwalt Park, 1000 Jessup Drive in O’Fallon. Deadline for reservations is Nov. 18. ◆ Local entrepreneur RANDY JUNG recently opened a local franchise of Doc Popcorn at South County Center. Doc Popcorn pops all of its non-GMO, wholegrain kernels in 100-percent corn oil and features a variety of flavors made from natural ingredients. Jung has plans to open a total of 10 Doc Popcorn locations across the state in the near future.

◆ Local food sales and marketing company Resource One usually helps other companies promote their products. The firm has now taken the next step and introduced a product of its own, Pennebaker’s Pie Bars, which hit the shelves at area Schnucks stores recently. The bars currently come in four flavors: key lime, banana cream, chocolate silk and peanut butter. The company also is toying with some new flavor possibilities, including chocolate mint and turtle pie.
