  • Chef JOHN GRIFFITHS, late of Truffles in Ladue, has joined the Washington University Dining Services/Bon Appétit team as campus executive chef. Griffiths recently returned from NYC, where he cooked at the James Beard House for members of the Beard Foundation. We’re betting students won’t be complaining about any mystery meat in the cafeteria!
  • 4 Hands Brewing Company has teamed up with area James Beard Award nominees GERARD CRAFT, KEVIN NASHAN, KEVIN WILLMANN, JOSH GALLIANO and the team at Salt to come up with a new beer, dubbed Foundation. The brew incorporates some of the favorite ingredients of each chef, including ginger, basil and lemon balm, among others, and should be done in late August or early September. It’ll be available at the 4 Hands tasting room as well as at the participating chef’s restaurants.
  • Lots to do during the upcoming Bastille Day weekend. Tonight, the seventh Annual Let Them Eat Art festival will be held in Maplewood from 6 to 11 p.m. Stroll through the downtown area and enjoy art, live music and all manner of entertainment, and pop in to one of the many fine eating and drinking establishments. Check out the details at cityofmaplewood. com. On Sunday, July 15, from 2 to 5 p.m., there will be a Bastille Day ceremony at the Chatillon-DeMenil Mansion, 3352 DeMenil Place, complete with canon salutes, period dance performances and a light menu and bar service from Cafe DeMenil.
  • We told you a while back that Russell’s Cafe & Bakery was in the process of moving to a larger space at 952 Brookwood Center in Fenton. The space debuted officially Friday, June 8, and owner RUSSELL PING says so far business has been booming.
  • Bixby’s at the Missouri History Museum has debuted a new summer menu, featuring cool seasonal items like herb and vegetable chop salad and black forest ham and stone fruit crostini. The full menu can be viewed at bixbys-mohistory.com. Speaking of new menus, The Crow’s Nest in Maplewood has a new Sunday brunch bill of fare. Stating at 10 a.m., enjoy featuring such favorites as the chicken and waffles and the bacon, egg and cheeseburger.
  • Enrich, a St. Louis design firm focusing on food and wellness companies, recently hosted Brand Appetite, an event that featured a panel discussion of all aspects of branding for the food and culinary industry, with proceeds donated to the St. Louis Area Foodbank. We’re told the event at the Contemporary Art Museum raised enough to benefit an estimated 4,800 area folks in need. Well done!
