This year is the 20th anniversary of Dining Out For Life, the national fundraiser for AIDS service organizations. This year's event on Thursday, April 25, involves a variety of local eateries that will donate 25 percent or more of your bill to Saint Louis Effort For AIDS (SLEFA). More than 100 area restaurants are participating. For the full list, visit diningoutforlife.com/stlouis/restaurants. Since 1990, Dining Out For Life has raised more than $4.3 million for SLEFA.

Chef WIL FERNANDEZ-CRUZ, who recently left The Restaurant at The Cheshire after a short tenure, has landed the job of chef de cuisine of Ibby's, located on the Danforth campus of Washington University.

Piccione Pastry, an Italian-style pastry purveyor from the folks behind Butler's Pantry, is set to open in the U. City Loop at the corner of Delmar and Skinker boulevards next month, with an array of traditional treats on the menu.

Destination Desserts, a new gourmet bakery with a social conscience, has begun operations in Maryland Heights in the Center for Head Injury Services at 11786 Westline Industrial Drive. The bakery is designed to train, employ and advance the lives of people with head injuries and other cognitive learning conditions. Start-up costs were covered by a variety of grants, and all the proceeds from the bakery will go to support the center. Mike Shannon's Grill, the latest from the folks who brought us Mike Shannon's Steaks And Seafood downtown, opened its doors last week, just across the river in Edwardsville, Ill., where Cardinals broadcasting legend and co-owner MIKE SHANNON has had a home for more than 30 years.

The Wild Card Wine Trail will take place May 4 and 5 on the Hermann Wine Trail, featuring fine food and drink at seven wineries along the scenic 20 miles between Hermann and New Haven. This year's menus will feature bacon-inspired food and wine pairings. Tickets are $30 (hermannwinetrail.com).
