Niche will be hosting a dinner with PAUL VIRANT, chef, restaurateur and preservation guru, on Tuesday, Sept. 11. The dinner is to celebrate the release of Vivant’s book The Preservation Kitchen: The Craft of Making and Cooking with Pickles, Preserves and Aigre-doux. The tome is the first canning manual and cookbook authored by a Michelin-starred chef and restaurant owner. There will be two seatings available for the six-course dinner. Cost is $130 per person and includes a signed copy of the cookbook, which will be personalized by Virant. The menu features dishes from the book as well as culinary creations by Niche’s GERARD CRAFT.

Lots of events to forward to the oenophiles out there: On Thursday, Sept. 6, the Schnucks Cooking School will host a Louis Latour wine tasting, featuring both Burgundy and Beaujolais selections, paired with a six-course chefs tasting menu. Also on the 19th, Annie Gunn’s will be the site of the Thomas Fogarty Winery Dinner. The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will feature four courses paired with the best of the winery’s bounty. Cost is $125 per person. More at 636-532-7684 or anniegunns.com.

The St. Louis Classic Cocktail Party will take place on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lafayette Square Park. Tickets at the event are $2 each and can be used to purchase tastes of spirits or cocktails.

Take advantage of the cooler weather and head out to Augusta, Mo., for the Seventh Annual Augusta Harvest Festival, which will be held Sept. 14 and 15.
