BILL KUNZ, owner of Highway 61 Roadhouse in Webster Groves, and TOM COGHILL, owner of Iron Barley in South City, are heading to New Iberia, La., to compete in the annual World Championship Gumbo Cook-off this month. Some 100 teams are expected to participate in the event. ‘Bill and Tom's Gumbo Road Trip’ will kick off with a party at Highway 61 Roadhouse this Saturday, Oct. 5, from noon to 6 p.m., featuring a whole hog cook-off and live music. Good luck and safe travels!

There have been some changes recently announced at Vin de Set Rooftop Bar & Bistro. KAREN CAPUTA has been named the restaurant’s new GM, replacing IVY MAGRUDER, who originally opened the restaurant as the executive chef. Magruder has accepted the position of corporate executive chef for Gamlin Restaurant Group, which owns Sub Zero and the soon-to-open Gamlin Whiskey House. Caputa most recently held the position of food and beverage manager for Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark, and she was previously a tenured manager at Mike Shannon's Steaks and Seafood.

More national accolades to report: Kudos to Pappy's Smokehouse in Midtown. The barbecue purveyor par excellence has been included on Thrillist.com's list of the 33 Best BBQ Joints in America. And Sump Coffee was recognized as one of the 58 Extraordinary Coffee Shops Around America by GrubStreet.com.

Chef BEN GRUPE, sous chef at Old Warson Country Club, is one of 11 chefs who recently qualified as a member of American Culinary Federation’s ACF Culinary Team USA. The team will begin practice this month for its first international competition in Luxembourg at the 2014 Villeroy & Boch Culinary World Cup in late November.

4 Hands Brewing Company is expanding its operations. The brewery will add two 60-barrel tanks this month and four more in January, which will allow 4 Hands to brew some 13,000 barrels.

And for all those Washington University faculty, staff and students in the audience, Pastaria is now accepting Bear Bucks.
