◆ The Ritz-Carlton has changed its lunch service, eliminating the longstanding lunch buffet in favor of what it calls the ‘30-Minute Lunch,’ available from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Guests have a choice of one item each from four categories: The Sides, The Dessert, The Sandwich and The Soup/Salad. The goal is to go from order, to food, to check, in half an hour. All of the breads and desserts are made in-house by executive pastry chef SIMONE FAUER, and the greens and other veggies are sourced from Living Water Farms in central Illinois. The restaurant also has a new burger menu and larger sandwich plates are still available, as well, for those who aren’t in a time crunch.
◆ EdgeWild Restaurant & Winery will soon be opening in Chesterfield, bringing some fine food, as well as premium wines to the St. Louis area. The owners have quite a bit of experience in the industry. ANDY KOHN, DEE DEE KOHN and CHRIS LAROCCA are investors in Chandler Hill Vineyards, and LaRocca has been behind several popular restaurant developments, including Triumph Grill and Kota Wood Fire Grill. The 10,000-square-foot space, former home of Bahama Breeze, will have seating for 195 inside, with an additional 80 at the bar and 70 on the enclosed patio. Executive chef AARON BAGGETT will present a menu featuring many dishes that will incorporate wines. In addition to fine food, EdgeWild will serve more than 20 varietals of wine under its own label, sourced from highend vinters from California, Oregon, Washington and Missouri, and will offer a wine club with wine discounts, classes, special events and other perks. Edgewild also will feature local microbrews, chocolates and coffees. Look for an opening in mid-November.
◆ The Presentation Room Restaurant at L’Ecole Culinaire will be celebrating Oktoberfest on Oct. 20 with a dinner of beer pairings. With scallops, quail and short ribs, this promises to be a great meal, as well as an engaging education. Tickets are $45 and reservations can be made by calling the campus at 587-2433.
◆The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, 975 N. Warson Road, will be hosting a World Food Day Commemoration from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Oct. 14, and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m on Oct. 15. During these times , the center will be welcoming volunteers to come and help package nutritious meals to be sent to those facing critical food shortages in sub-Saharan Africa. ◆ The Schlafly Fresh Hop Beer Festival will be Saturday, Oct. 22, from noon until 4 p.m. at Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood. The fest has doubled its list of participants this year and will feature 14 local breweries, who will all take fresh Sorachi Ace hops from Washington to create a unique brew for the event.
