◆JIM FIALA is in the process of shuttering The Terrace View restaurant at City Garden downtown. The restaurant will go to lunch-only service in October from Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fiala says he won’t renew the lease once it expires at the end of the year, indicating that the main reason for the closure is that he just wasn’t able to attract enough folks downtown for dinner.

◆ The latest location of Mosaic Modern Fusion opened softly this week at 11925 Manchester Road in Des Peres. The new restaurant features the same menu as the popular downtown location, and chef/owner CLAUS SCHMITZ describes the place as “a downtown experience but designed for the county.” The new eatery is Mosaic # 3 (there’s a smaller Mosaic at Lambert Airport), and Schmitz says he’s already working on No. 4.

◆ Area microbrewer Crown Valley Brewing and Distilling Co.‘s Plowboy Porter was awarded Best of Show in the 2011 Savannah Craft Brew Festival. The event featured some of the best craft breweries from across the country, including such luminaries as New Belgium, Samuel Adams and Dogfish Head. Congrats!

◆ It’s been announced that the latest location of The Wine & Cheese Place, 457 N. New Ballas Road, has been certified kosher.

◆ MARCO FABOZZI has been named the new food and beverage director at the Hyatt downtown. Most recently, he was at the Grand Hyatt New York and the Hyatt Regency Jersey City.

◆From Oct. 2 through Oct. 8, Kirkwood will host a weeklong culinary event, dubbed Dine Downtown Kirkwood. Participating restaurants and food businesses will be offering discounts and specials. The event winds up with Kirkwood’s annual Fall Festival of Flavor. More info at downtownkirkwood.com.

◆ There’s a chill in the air, which means more and more restaurants are debuting their fall menus. Eclipse Restaurant at the Moonrise Hotel in U. City recently unveiled a new offerings for breakfast, lunch, dinner and desserts. And Vin de Set will debut a complete menu revamp Oct. 4, which co-owner PAUL HAMILTON describes as a “dramatic change,” with a greater focus on more traditional French fare.

◆Operation Dine Original, a Saint Louis Originals benefit for Operation Food Search, will be held Oct. 17 at Moulin. The event will feature more than 30 booths from some of the area’s finest independent restaurants. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at any Saint Louis Originals member restaurant.

◆ Through Oct. 21, Pratzel’s Eastgate Bakery will have items available for purchase at Straub’s Market in Clayton, as well as at its own baking facility at 9263 Dielman Industrial Drive in Olivette. These traditional treats include honey cake, challahs, stollens, and its famous rye bread and upside-down chocolate cupcakes.
