Steven Soderbergh is a master filmmaker. I love his movies. His pacing is perfect, and the man knows how to tell a story. OK, I’ll admit I was getting a little sick of the Ocean’s franchise, but hey, every director deserves a ‘beach house’ movie. Here again, Soderbergh takes on a less-heady topic and tells the story of a macho black ops cleaner who goes rogue after being double-crossed. The big reveal: She’s a woman.
Our story begins midstream: Mallory Kane (Gina Carano) walks into a diner in upstate New York. When her former, ahem, co-worker Aaron (mouth-breather Channing Tatum) shows up to bring her in, it is on.
And girlfriend can handle herself. From there, the story flashes back to a job in Barcelona that was not what it appeared to be, but the start of a massive conspiracy that leaves Mallory a hunted woman. Hunted by her boss, Kenneth (Ewan McGregor), among others.
I am telling you, you have never seen female fight scenes like this. Carano, a formal mixed-marshal arts fighter, is incredible. If Linda Hamilton and Jackie Chan had a baby (I wish), it would be Gina Carano. This movie won’t change your life, but it’s a nice little popcorn-muncher. It's a 7.
