Let’s not beat around the bush here: With four theatrical releases and three straight-to-DVD movies, I think it’s safe to say they have squeezed every last drop of comedy juice out of this franchise. Is this movie funny? Yes, actually it is. Is it original? No. Even with ample opportunity to mine for fresh comedy in the characters’ new places in life, the writers instead stick with the old tried-and-true. Hey, if it’s not broken…

It is 13 years since American Pie came out. Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) are married with a child; Vicky (Tara Reid) and Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas)—much like their careers—have gone their separate ways, as have Oz (Chris Klein) and Heather (Mena Suvari). Stifler (Seann William Scott) is the same degenerate he has always been and Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) still pines for Stifler’s mom (Jennifer Coolidge).

It’s simple: If you’re a fan of the franchise, you will like the movie. Coolidge and Eugene Levy are always entertaining, and the film introduces a new generation of capable comedy talent for whom the producers no doubt already have a sequel planned. With lines of dialogue like let’s make this reunion our b!+*h, you may want to have a glass of wine or two before you head out to the theater, though.

It's a 6.
