To Ron Isom, Sr., the whole world and everything in it, is his canvas. Some see his art as whimsical – if they look deeper, they’ll see that same whimsy packs a real punch!
“Symbolic Journey”, his upcoming show at Grafica Fine Art in Webster Groves, invites you to experience his art as a diary of his very creative life.
Isom moved to Webster Groves after retiring from decades of teaching art at elementary, high school and college levels in Belleville, Illinois. Retirement energized him with an opportunity to explore his personal renaissance. It has given him the freedom to manipulate common materials, eliminate boundaries and create connections for himself, instead of coaxing and inspiring his students.
Over his career, Isom has compiled a personal “codex”, a body of symbols – which he calls his “life’s encyclopedia”. “Symbolic Journey” will allow you to see the many forms this codex can take. Come in to see the joy, the depth, the hidden-in-plain-sight message of Ron Isom, Sr.’s artwork.
The Open House style opening reception for “Symbolic Journey” is Saturday, October 7 from 3 to 8 pm. Grafica is in Webster Groves at 7884 Big Bend Blvd., between Laclede Station Road and Murdoch. The show will run through November 4.
