RARE MATISSE COLLECTION MAKES ITS DEBUT ON THE WORLD STAGE IN ST. LOUIS THIS SPRING
PUBLIC VIEWING WEEKDAYS THROUGH JUNE 1st
St. Louis, MO (April 4, 2018, 2018) -- World renown art collector Ronnie Greenberg showcases a rare collection of Matisse drawings and prints this spring. The exhibit makes its debut on the world stage in St. Louis. From Friday, April 6, through Friday, June 1, 2018, The Greenberg Gallery in Clayton will display 51 drawings, lithographs, etchings, dry-points, aquatints, and linocuts of Henri Matisse (1869-1954). Collectors hail Matisse as one of the most famous of French artists. His works can go for millions. These particular drawings and prints were acquired by Greenberg from a variety of domestic and international collections with the intention of making them accessible to a wider range of collectors at prices ranging from $15,000 to $400,000. According to Greenberg, “We’re excited to introduce a fresh view on a familiar artist and to add another chapter in our history of bringing unique and enlightening collections to St. Louis. Each of these works is recognizable as Matisse is a great addition to any collection. It is everything you could want in a piece of art.” Buyers can only expect these pieces grow more valuable in the years to come.
The selection of lesser-known works which overview Matisse’s career have never been exhibited together. “These works are not just a pretty face but great examples of subtlety of pencil vs. ink. They show Matisse’s mastery of a single line and shines a new light onto what he was capable of as an artist,” said Greenberg.
Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Pablo Picasso, as one of the artists who best helped to define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts throughout the opening decades of the twentieth century. His mastery of the expressive language of color and drawing, displayed in a body of work spanning over a half-century, won him recognition as a leading figure in modern art.
