COCA invites all young and emerging artists to submit their works to: “Harlem Renaissance: Contemporary Response. " Harlem Renaissance is a juried visual art exhibition featuring works inspired by artists associated with the Harlem Renaissance (1918-1937), a theme that will also be explored through the performing arts in COCA’s production of Uptown in Founders’ Theatre April 7-9, 2017. Visual artists such as Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden, Henry Ossawa Tanner, Archibald J. Motley, Aaron Douglass, and Gordon Parks as well as the literature, music, and dance of the time provide the inspiration. All explorations and interpretations of the theme are invited. Artworks in all 2D media (including photography), techniques and styles are encouraged. 

 

Harlem Renaissance: Contemporary Response is open to emerging or Young Artists 16-24 years of age living in the St. Louis, Missouri region and surrounding 50-mile radius. The deadline to submit works for this exhibit is MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2017. There is no fee. Entries are accepted online only.
