The Saint Louis Chamber Chorus concludes its 58th season with a program of sacred music firmly in the Russian tradition, featuring contrasting styles. Many will be familiar with the 'usual suspects' of Russian music – Glinka and Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky and Rachmaninov. These will be joined by wonderful, if less familiar, composers writing in an archaic style, Alfred Schnittke and Gyorgy Sviridov. The Chamber Chorus will also sing music by John Tavener and Arvo Pärt.
A highlight of the concert will be the world premiere of a new piece by Yakov Gubanov, our Composer-in-Residence. Audience members will be able to greet the composer, traveling to St. Louis to hear his work performed for the first time.
Join the Saint Louis Chamber Chorus to hear “The Ancients Speak – Old Church Slavonic,” Sunday, May 25 at Saint Stanislaus Kostka Church. Parking is free. For more information about the concert, and tickets, call 636-458-4343.
