The Color Purple, the 1985 film based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, follows forty years in the life of Celie (Whoopi Goldberg in her first movie role), as she overcomes a history of cruelty and abuse. The film figures prominently in the current exhibition, Mickalene Thomas: Mentors, Muses, and Celebrities, and will be introduced by Amber Jamilla Musser, Associate Professor of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. At the screening you can register to win tickets to the Opening Night performance of the Tony Award-winning musical The Color Purple at the Fabulous Fox Theater, Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 7:30 pm.
