Kranzberg Artist Juan Chávez, Sylvester Brown, Jr., and Michael Allen
Juan William Chávez is Laumeier’s current Kranzberg exhibition artist and a cultural activist living in St. Louis. His studio practice focuses on the potential of space by developing creative initiatives that address community and cultural issues. He was awarded the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship for Advanced Study Abroad and a grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts in 2012.
Sylvester Brown, Jr. is an award-winning journalist, former publisher of Take Five Magazine and metro columnist for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. In January 2011, Brown established When we Dream Together, a nonprofit aimed at revitalizing long-ignored urban areas.
Architectural historian Michael Allen founded Preservation Research Office in August 2009 after having worked professionally in historic preservation for nearly five years. He authors the blog, Ecology of Absence. Allen’s research is concerned with the impact of deindustrialization, population loss and postwar urban renewal projects on the preservation of historic urban landscapes.
