Pictorial photography emerged from the shadows of a “point and shoot craft” into a style where artists strove to create painterly, romantic images. As the processes associated with photography evolved, so did the concept of photography as an art form emerge. The pure beauty of a photograph began to shine through as Modern photographers learned to capture images that had always surrounded us, yet were seldom seen. “Pure Photography: Pictorial and Modern Photographs” includes photographers that span thematic periods and artistic styles, such as Alfred Steiglitz, Berenice Abbott, and Lewis Wickes Hine. The exhibition will be on display from Friday, May 2 – Friday, August 1, 2014 in Gallery I, II & III. It is free and open to the public with an opening reception on Friday, May 2, 2014 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. The public can enjoy free food & drink along with artful conversation and observation. The artist studios on the second level of the Foundry Art Centre will also be open to the public for visiting. For more information, please call 636-255-0270 or visit foundryartcentre.org.
