Amateur and professional artists of all ages are invited to compete in the 8th annual Paint Webster plein air (outdoor) painting competition on Saturday, May 10 throughout Webster Groves, MO. A program of the Webster Community Arts Foundation (WCAF), the event is free and open to the public. Prizes donated by area businesses, educational institutions and individuals, total more than $2,100. New for this year, Photograph Webster is a sister event at the same time that welcomes analog photographers to capture the Paint Webster experience and share their photos at Webster's free art fair, Art&Air on June 6-8.
Paint Webster artists may brush up their skills one week prior to the competition. Michele Wells, pastel artist and co-owner of the Green Door Art Gallery, will present a demonstration and workshop starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3 at Moody Ave. west of Gore Ave. near the Webster Groves parking garage entrance.
At the Paint Webster event on May 10, all participants must have their paper or canvas stamped from 8-10 a.m. at Yucandu Art Studio, 20 Allen Ave. The paintings will be turned in for judging in late afternoon, and a festive public reception and awards ceremony will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Monday Club, 34 S. Maple Ave.
