Duane Reed Gallery presents the latest work of artist Jill Hackney. Exhibition opens Friday, November 15th with a reception that evening 5 – 8pm. The exhibition will run through January 4th.
Gallery hours: Tuesday through Saturday 10-5pm.
A native of New Orleans, Jill Hackney studied painting at The Cleveland Institute of Art and Louisiana State University, where she earned her BFA. She is a founding member and twice president of Studio 801, an artists’ cooperative in Baton Rouge. Hackney was also recently selected as a Fellow of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation for her work as President of the NUNU Arts and Culture Collective. Best known for her still life and landscape work, her focus is to show light’s impact on her subjects through layers of vertical and linear strokes. Using the natural texture of the wood on which she paints, each painting is approached with a sense of nostalgia. The end effect is a union of the senses, which awakens feelings of joy, serenity, and peace.
