Jason Hackenwerth is an artist who uses common materials in transformational ways. Known primarily for ephemeral works created with latex balloons, his sculptures have been exhibited around the world, including at such prestigious institutions as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. At Craft Alliance, Jason will construct an ethereal environment using ultra-lightweight plastic to create billowing, cavernous forms that fill with air and are illuminated by simple fluorescent lights. This work refers to the expansion and contraction of the universe, the ebb and flow of ocean tides, and the constant filling and emptying of our lungs as we breathe. These otherworldly works point beyond the physical to a timeless, eternal, and un-manifested realm through the use of movement and light. The installation will be an immersive experience and will completely transform the Craft Alliance gallery.
Jason received his MFA in painting from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2003 and Bachelor of Fine Art in printmaking from Webster University, St. Louis, MO in 1997.
