The project will be installed in the Pulitzer courtyard for the duration of MD / STL.
30 Days of Demolition provides both a quantifying examination of demolition and a creative micro-geographic installation. The project demonstrates the impact of city demolition on climate change through an iterative process of collection, storage and presentation of bricks taken from demolished city buildings. Bricks or other fragments from all buildings demolished in a 30-day period of city life will become synecdochal evidence of the loss through a creative map-like installation in the Pulitzer Arts courtyard. An accompanying brochure and website section will present the data of on month’s urban depletion: number of potential residents, number of potential businesses, material in tons, energy expended for demolition and tax revenues to the city.
