As Dottie Eaton of Design Style worked her way through redoing the main floor of this Town and Country home, she was tasked with updating the client’s family room. The space had a country French feel to it, which had been popular at the time it was designed. But the years had passed, and it was time to bring a new look to the space. Eaton’s client wanted to bring the room’s look up to date, still incorporating traditional elements but in a modern way.

“We were going for a Ralph Lauren/Town & Country kind of look,” Eaton says.

They removed everything that had previously been in the room and brought in all-new furniture. Incorporating a strawlike color, they selected a glass lamp, a table from Interlude Home, a zebra rug and a variety of Ralph Lauren and Kravet fabrics.

After reworking the fireplace and reupholstering a chair for the client’s cat to watch the birds, the long and narrow room is more “inviting and warm,” Eaton says.
